Getting a SIPRI Work Mobile

All staff on contract and based in Sweden can have a SIPRI laptop as well as a mobile phone with accompanying subscription. We do not supply a phone by default when starting employment as some staff do not need or want a work mobile. Due to financial constraints we also have a somewhat limited number of available licenses. If you do need one, please contact IT support to request it.

Please note: The SIPRI phone&subscription is not a replacement for a private one. It is a work phone only – use your private phone for private matters.

 Use freely (NO COST)

  • Calls within Sweden and in the EU/EES
  • Data (up to 7GB) in Sweden and the EU/EES. For the rest of the world – see below.

Use with some caution (VARYING COST)

  • International calls from Sweden – no restrictions, but always consider if there are other options (Zoom or Teams meeting?).

Use only sparingly (HIGH COST)

  • Data in the rest of the world – surf passes cost up to 340SEK per day, even if only used for 2 minutes to check your email. Basic recommendation: use Eduroam WiFi (or any other secure, free WiFi = no data cost) – otherwise avoid entirely!
  • When flying or travelling by boat you sometimes call via satellite – one call minute can cost 50SEK, surfing 125SEK per MB (1MB = less than 2 minutes on Facebook). Only use for emergencies!
     

Before travelling outside of the EU/EES
Using your work phone outside of the EU/EES area can be a very costly matter. SIPRI employees are advised to:

  • Call Telenor Customer Support (020-222 222) and ask for advice – tell them where you are going and how you will need to use your phone.
  • Check this Telenor page (in Swedish): https://www.telenor.se/foretag/roaming/ Enter the country you are going to and see costs for calling, texting and roaming
  • Purchase a suitable temporary phone card in the country you travel to. Save the receipts for reimbursement through the Maconomy finance system.

  • Download the app: Telenor One X.
  • Follow the instructions in the app to register and log in.
