For eligible partnerships: This scheme is not restricted to UK PIs, and the PI can be from anywhere in the world. Applicants from non-UK research organizations or applications which include non-UK partnerships should refer to the document ‘Costings Guidance for Non-UK Institutions and Partners’ for further guidance.

Some departments within DFID require a Due Diligence report for potential partners. SIPRI’s most recent Due Diligence report with DFID is from April 2020.

FORMAS

Applications are made through the PRISMA Research web portal.

The grant administrator must be a Swedish university, university college, research institute or government agency that fulfils Formas’ eligibility requirements for grant administrating organisations, i.e.:

  • Be a legal entity with a corporate identification number
  • Be able to guarantee the academic freedom described in the Swedish Higher Education Act
  • Not be profit-driven
  • Not constitute a construction to allow an education institute to receive remuneration for indirect costs entailed through externally funded research

SIPRI qualifies as a grant administrator.

NB! FORMAS heavily prioritises research that has a Swedish context (rather than an international outlook) and favours awarding grants to universities, technical colleges, and colleges.  

A legal signatory must approve all applications in the PRISMA Research web portal once submitted.

Korea Foundation

The Korea Foundation normally only grants funding up to the maximum amount of USD 50,000.

An application must be made and submitted by the proposed Project Lead.

MacArthur Foundation

Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Sweden (MFA SE)

The Swedish Government uses standardised forms for applying for and reporting back on grants. Go to the MFA website to download the most recent forms or ask the Grants Manager to forward them to you.

NB! Applications to the Swedish MFA may only submitted by the Deputy Director or a person directly appointed by them.

For each application, SIPRI has to confirm its adherence to the MFA SE Grant Conditions.

PRISMA Research

The PRISMA Research portal is used by several Swedish funders, including FORMAS and the Swedish Research Council (VR). Every researcher participating in an application in PRISMA, needs to create and maintain a profile with their details for e.g. education, publication, current employer. The profile may be used for every application made in PRISMA, disregarding donor or previous/on-going applications.

NB! The Project Lead must be create and submit the application in PRISMA. The application must then be signed off on-line by either the Head of Operations or the Deputy Director in order to be fully submitted.

Riksbankens Jubileumsfond (RJ)

An application must be made and submitted by the research lead and all participating researchers must be registered in the portal.

(NB! Only for Projects applications, not Research Initiation, Programmes or Infrastructure)

SAMS Domestic (System for Award Management)

The information regarding SIPRI is kept up to date by the Grants Manager. When applying for grants from US Department of State, information regarding SIPRI is accessed from this site.

There are various funding opportunities within the UN, eg. UNPBF, UNSCAR, UNICEF (contractor ID: 1900708572)

The UN has a template for calculating fee levels for consultancies (both institutional and individual).

Use the UN Operational Rates of Exchange when calculating costs in different currencies.

Most UN agencies require unique bank accounts tied to individual contracts. Please contact the Grants Manager for more information.

Open calls twice a year (spring and autumn).

The Head of Operations and the Deputy Director has signatory credentials.

The classification codes we have used in the past are:  50901 (tvärvetenskapligt, fredsforskning); 50601 (statsvetenskap: allmänt), 50401 (sociologi: allmänt).

All applications to VR are done in the PRISMA Research Portal.
